John Chinaka Onyeche continues to put out amazing poetry continuously. His poetry comes from the heart, from faith, from the anxieties of living in a war torn country, he begs for the peace to begin. Let’s sit with his poetry for awhile and beg with him. This man is writing from his soul.
John has put out several books including 25 Atonements.
Art, they say, thrives on experience. One, however, cannot quite say the form such experience may take, as life unfolds. Different arts, then, thrives on different layers of experience, even as they strive to assuage human conditions. In The Morning Came Calling Our Names, although grief assumes multifold layers of the experience therein, it is tapered with deft metaphors and philosophical insights and foresights, offering, instead, existentialist perspectives on the ways toward overcoming it. – John Chinaka Onyeche
John Onyeche is an amazing Nigerian poet, erudite, highly educated, he brings his griefs to us in many metaphors. Highly concerned for his country, he also reminds us of it’s troubled history of slavery. In his poem “When l saw the man behind the cross” John asks: ”Has Africa not saved the awakening — The awakening machines of the world?” This book is simply fascinating. I highly recommend it. – Elizabeth Mastin
