Poetry Showcase from K Weber

Discord

I am standing, sleeveless,
wind-soaked night-
gown. To dream
myself, dislodged, in this
midwest
is the dream.

How
a lower spine will be
rebuilt.

My body
has become a tiny
house parked
in the mud, west. Too
many visitors.

After-
noon greyscale
creeps like fingers
in congress
with music-
less piano. Keys
bleed as I worry
by.

I’ve lived
long in the brain
of the med-
waste.

say say say

the way
the weight
gives wave

a feeling
of failing
fanning the fame

they hold
me, whole
like home

someone reads
and it's real
like red

my fingers
on the flanger
while we figure

out
our
hours

for thought
tw/cw: disordered eating

cram-cheeked at the ice-
box getting warmed every night

by the light of the refrigerator.
the cabinet creaks someone

awake and aware but nothing’s
said. stomach has its wars. brain knows

sleep knows better. this battle
bulges the belt-line. jaw aches

in taste while hot tears
won’t cry. no sorry when the lesson

unlearns how to swallow. slow-
spoken at the table as grace

on the in-breath as bellies
mimic fullness.

Word Collab Poetry: Saturation by K Weber

saturation

before we sour or go ruined or before
we reach the waterfront, i crane
my neck to notice your haircut.

you decide we haven’t rekindled
or emerged anti-fragile
until my eyes acknowledge the nape.

i count seconds, breath-held, taking
only cues from your countenance
as you assess my intent.

it’s a seagull’s day: flight hurriedly
hovers over trash cans and your hands
are ghostly despite the sun.

your veins’ tepid estuary and the skin
under your skin under my skin leave
each pulse as crumb to distract.

our pathways are like leftovers
in argument without witness and you
ensnare without word or net.

no sanctuary at this calm, stark rock
as our bodies long to plunge but settle,
propped against, and not warmed upon.

we are riparian here at our most physical
as we are the ecology of fixed eyes
looking forward together over the river.

we never dare to swim with the fear
as panicked as a cat in the currents
or push with the force of a heavy door.

we need to scan for home and i know
the scrumptious selfishness
of the bliss of alone.

no elixir can fix the throat of the bird
singing our secrets over a pier
or within a palace.

Poem from K Weber “Lullabye for Christie” inspired by the Dirty Three

Lullabye for Christie

A poem inspired by the song “Lullabye for Christie” by Dirty Three

I have stretched myself out
like the limbs of the letter K
but bent to warble; rust-
metallic as a saw singing

while someone plays me
like a violin. They may
remember me, Kristi,
but never the spelling. I

adopt the soft, inner arc
of a C just to have my name
committed to other peoples’
memories. I will be Christine,

Christy, Christa, and adrift.
I am insecure as I secure
these masks. I rest on a plane
of existence I share with birds

and tall grasses while I fail
to convert oxygen to truth.
Just take me away in your
thoughts as whoever I was

while the drummer knocked
time. Seasons roll by and who
am I? Nestled or severe? Feet
steadied in sand or twisted

in the wind, my ankle? I swear
summer slowed to a long kiss just
once before they knew I can
wield fast daggers and steal songs

for poems and remember me only
as the pointed limbs of the letter K.

Untitled

nearing the sallow
fen, the natural

eye spots
a cardinal, up-

tick deer.
golden

ragwort creeps
the footpath.

sun escapes
behind a yawn

of trees stretching
limbs to form

an awning. rock
and dust

sleep here
every night

without objection.

This untitled piece is from my 2018 online chapbook/audiobook “cling as ink.”

Freelance, patient

I am terrified
of whatever’s going wrong
with me but I am old
enough to know that
when it feels like a heart
attack, a broken
bone, diabetes,
typhoid, it’s not. It’s all
in my head like the pointy
fingers laughing at me
while I break in half
and halves again.

Support system
There are bones
relying on other
bones. Right knee-
cap is wrong.
Hip pops and thigh
crackles hot. Discs
light up with sparks
on tender meat.
Spinal fluid may
contain a patient
silt. It waits for any
color; determines
today as a mood ring.

Observation
The maple leaves
are little paws
stretching
in reflection. They
want to tap into
the river to reach
past stone and into
each fish.
My back
on the grass,
I eyeball clouds
through oak
and acorn. The roots
grow into me
and I await
dragonflies.
