Poetry from Hiram Larew : Achill Sound & Splashed Paint

Achill Sound

When the roads curve like sound
and dip as if lifting to bow
Whenever all thoughts round or cluster
          or when hearts call down
                    is Ireland

And as rich when poor was
or as wise as bare heads in snow seemed
and as twigs so frail broke into song
and as true as any blight or potato could be
                   was Ireland

So when sand laps the senses
or salt drips the edges as dreams
Whenever hope streams through such heavens
          and moss comes home
           or hearts beam down
                    is Ireland.

Splashed Paint

Heaven in hell what a day it’s been --
a devil of slams and broken-down stuff
a shorted-out curse of popping volts
        and cracks in bricks
                 that started gushing

Even more
that bam of that what the devil crash
         and then oh then
         how paint somehow
		dear god of spills
                got loose

Yes sir
        a day of days when
	I swear I give up
ended all of the misery for good
        by stomping its hat
		flat dead

Audio readings of Hiram's poetry: 1st: Achill Sound 2nd: Splashed Paint

Bio: a blurb from Regie Cabrico, Larew’s poems are psalms, driven by nature and memory, his language makes clouds gush and twigs listen to the chorus of trees. Larew’s art is an abiding love for the earth and its man-made wonders: pyramids, bread, and barley swept brooms. Larew is a seeker and seer of sentience: when all is lost, there are gentle hyperboles that give hope and illuminate the living and non-living with halos. Every poem in Mud Ajar is a tiny blessing, an invitation to embrace the sky, the perfect panacea to the unprecedented frenzy we’ve been engulfed by, enabling us to reflect upon our own unflinching resilience. Mud Ajar packs a wallop of truths by a skilled and unpretentious poet gifted to shower lyrical beauty upon you like holy water. Larew’s poems have appeared recently in Poetry South, Contemporary American Voices, Honest Ulsterman and Iowa Review. http://www.HiramLarewPoetry.com and http://www.PoetryXHunger.com Larew’s newest collection of poems, Mud Ajar, has recently been released by Atmosphere Press.. http://www.HiramLarewPoetry.com
