Poetry : Alterations from Kelly Marie McDonough

Alterations

One shot, an arrow
bursts through flesh,
and muscle. Straight
to the bone.
My marrow exposed.

Years of worship
undone. A disappointed deity.
I, a sinner in a sacred union.
My blood pours out –
tears for absolution.

The offer for salvation
is violence against my body.
Crucify me – pin me
to the cross of your desire.
I am undone.

Now I walk around
with holes.
Stigmata of your love.
Both from the wound,
but also, from the cure.
