Poem by Sidney Mansueto : “Sleeping in the City”

grayscale photo of city buildings
Sleeping in the City
The horn's voice woke me
From a dark night's sleep
Of peace, and no voices
Now awake, I dread the next hour
Coffee could heal, yet the scars still hurt
Bleeding of pain, I cry
I lie in a safe haven
That feels like a garden
Of dead roses, and lost dreams
Of broken promises
