Shortest Distance

the arrow precedes us
fretting beneath braids
awareness an insistent pressure
from crooked fingers

arcing through personal heavens
carried in line-drawings
at cheekbones,
narrow and thinning

until we make landfall
where rains will be heavier
than brocade, piercing
describing diagrams and bones.
