Am I Still Here? by David L O’Nan (poetry & writings)

Am I Still Here?

Am I Still here?
You called me a vet
A hero whom lived a war,
Now the unknown man

I wave to the cars passing by
Too much hustle for the busy brains
A simple hello I cannot get
A city buzzes like hornets
To the silence of my rot
I begin to forget all
Except for the flashes of the bombs
And the pain of bullets

Then the relaxation I felt meditating
On the beauty
Of the Ha Long Bay

I just want you to hold my hand, stranger
I don’t need your bread
Look at me, straight to my eyes, my soul
And tell me i’m still here
